Break the Cycle

Are you stuck in a bad rut and need to get out? Or are you realizing your life is self destructing around you because of decisions you have made?  It might be because you are too stubborn or proud to admit you need help. Well, it is time to break the cycle.

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. – Proverbs 16:18

This blog post was given inspiration from the song Break the Cycle by For Today on their album Fight The Silence.

A lot of times when we see people self destructing themselves, their family and friends suffer as well.  They will also stumble around and fall to the ground, but are too proud to reach out.  Sometimes you need to stop being so stubborn (proud) to get out of your slump and ask someone, even a friend, for help.  In the end, it will be harder to ask for help with a problem than anything.

Or you could be just stuck in wanting all Earthly things instead of seeking God.  As we have seen on Black Friday when everyone is rushing the stores to buy stuff for themselves, not caring if they run over someone.

Here is what the Bible has to say about being Proud.

Talk no more so very proudly, let not arrogance come from your mouth; for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. – 1 Samuel 2:3

Behold, I am against you, O proud one, declares the Lord God of hosts, for your day has come, the time when I will punish you. – Jeremiah 50:31

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” – James 4:6

In this verse, God’s grave will be extended to those who are humble before him.  God opposes mean he resists and sends judgment, for the proud have chosen the methods of the world and are acting as God’s enemy.

Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” – 1 Peter 5:5

As you can see, a lot of letters that Paul writes reference each other. At the end of this verse where is says “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” it is the exact same thing said in James 4:6.

Heck, there are even times when someone will know that person who is destroying their life and will say “They will ask if they need help.”  But as mentioned above, they have too much pride to ask for help.  Sometimes we, especially if you are a Christian, need to step in and help people like this regardless if they are a Christian or not.

In Galatians chapter 6, Paul writes that we should carry each other’s burdens, essentially helping one another when in trouble.

Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load.
Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. – Galatians 6:1-10

In the passage above, Paul illustrates what he means by the life of love in the Spirit. As a Christian and if you know someone who is struggling, you should step up to help them out.

It's the blind
Leading the blind
Leading the blind to their demise
It's the blind
Leading the blind
Leading the blind to their demise
Break the cycle!
Break the cycle!
Break the cycle!
Self destruction has tainted our way of life
It's time to break the cycle
In the darkness of fear, there's a dawning light
It's time to break the cycle
We stumble around and fall to the ground, but are we too proud to reach out
To reach for a hand that can help us to stand, and keep us from falling face-down?
We're only helpless because we're heartless
In a world
Headed for self-destruction
The answer is here
Are we too blind to see it?
In a world headed for self-destruction
The answer is here. Are we too blind to see it?
There is hope in the blood!
(So) Rise up, there's a new day dawning!
We'll see the darkness flee
Rise up, there's a new day dawning, in which the blind will see!
I see a light in the darkness, rising in the night!
I see a light in the darkness, in the Sons of light!
Bring this broken system to it's knees!
Bring this broken system to it's knees!
Break the Cycle! Break the Cycle!
We're only helpless, because we're heartless
In a world headed for self-destruction,
The answer is here, are we too blind to see it?
In a world headed for self-destruction,
The answer is here.
It's the blind
Leading the blind
Leading the blind to their demise
It's the blind
Leading the blind
Leading the blind to their demise
Break the cycle!
Break the cycle!
Break the cycle!
